Israeli travelers and two extra crew members stormed the cockpit of Flight FZ1073 after an Omani co-pilot stabbed the captain and sent the jet into a 14,000-foot plunge. Their quick action prevented what officials call a potential terror attack and allowed a safe emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. All 160-plus passengers survived.

This is INSANE🤯 Cockpit footage shows Israeli passengers covered in the blood of the FlyDubai pilot who was stabbed by his co-pilot in an attempt to hijack and crash the Boeing 737 headed to Tel Aviv from Dubai.… pic.twitter.com/2PRaQ8cDW1
Flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, on the morning of September 30 after a violent cockpit confrontation that Israeli officials describe as a possible attempted hijacking and terror attack.
The Boeing 737 departed Dubai International around 6:05 a.m. local time carrying roughly 160–180 passengers, many of them Israeli, including children. About two hours into the flight, near the Saudi-Jordanian border, the aircraft plunged more than 14,000 feet in under 30 seconds. It first transmitted the general emergency code 7700, then switched to 7500, the international signal for unlawful interference or hijacking, before reverting. Israeli fighter jets were briefly scrambled.
Israeli officials and passenger accounts say an Omani co-pilot stabbed the captain—an Indian national in several reports—with a knife and appeared to try to crash the aircraft. Passengers heard screams and saw blood in the cockpit. Israelis seated near the front, along with two off-duty pilots traveling as passengers, forced the attacker out of the cockpit and helped regain control. A nurse and doctor on board provided initial treatment. Both pilots were hospitalized upon landing; all passengers were reported safe and accounted for.
Flydubai confirmed an “incident” en route and a safe landing at Tabuk. Images later showed damage to the aircraft’s rudder. Israeli authorities, including security agencies, are investigating the episode as a potential terrorist act rather than a mental-health incident, noting the co-pilot had been with the airline only nine months. Israel’s transportation minister suspended Flydubai flights to the country pending an inquiry. Passengers later described fearing the plane would crash before they intervened.
A second Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv was also diverted as a precaution. Investigations continue in Saudi Arabia and Israel.
NOTE: El Al does not fly from the UAE. Israeli security agencies question whether UAE airport screening meets their standards. Israel’s Shin Bet requires extra CT baggage screening on Israeli-flagged aircraft that Dubai has not yet installed or approved. The ban, extended through at least November 2026 after the Iran conflict, leaves only Emirati carriers such as Flydubai operating the route.
